LUMIA won the architecture competition for new housing area on Kalda Street in Tallinn
The former industrial landscape of Kalda Street is transforming. To develop the area, Liven organised an architecture competition, and based on the winning entry, a new compact, family-friendly residential environment will be created on the edge of Nõmme.
In the focus of our concept is the unique pine forest atmosphere of Nõmme, with buildings thoughtfully positioned to blend naturally into the forested setting. This approach creates a residential quarter that feels both like city and nature. In total, 12 apartment buildings are planned, harmoniously integrated into the surrounding pine forest. The façades are inspired by the tones of pine bark, moss, bog landscapes and berries.
Each apartment is designed to be high-quality and adaptable to suit residents at all life stages. The quarter offers residents privacy, while the shared spaces support community interaction and collective activities.
We look forward to further development work on the Kalda Street residential quarter!
