Staadioni 83: A Landmark of Estonian Historic Timber Architecture

The historic timber building at Staadioni 83 is a fine example of late 19th-century Historicist architecture and the English pavilion-style hospital system. Built in 1880, it is one of the few remaining structures of its kind in Estonia and is recognized as the country’s largest historic wooden building.

The building boasts a rich cultural legacy, having hosted notable figures such as the poet Juhan Liiv and theatre director Kaarel Ird, and served as a workplace for the renowned psychiatrist and writer Vaino Vahing. While the building has seen various additions over the decades, its original architectural form remains clearly visible, preserving valuable heritage details both inside and out. As a protected monument, it is now undergoing a meticulous and dignified restoration to begin a new chapter as a unique residential apartment building.
